edited May 2018 in Tour & expedition
We've just booked a week in Cala Millor at the end of September. Although I've been to Mallorca several times I'm slightly out my comfort zone in so far as it's an area of the island I've never visited and considerably later in the year than normal - I'm usually there in May/June and closer to Pollensa or Soller. I've had a look at the map but I just wondered if anyone had any recommendations for any routes of 2-3 hrs in the Cala Millor area. I'm hoping the weather will be similar to May at that time of year i.e. pleasantly warm, cooler in the evening, does that sound about right?

Cheers

Thanks for the info. I just get the feeling that that side of the island is perhaps not as well suited to cycling as the North.

    Cheers

Just back from a week in Cala Bona ( joins on to Cala Millor)
Like you, not been to that part of the island before either.
I didn't go cycling this time mind.

Yes the area is not hugely popular with road cyclists but that is not a bad thing...
I saw lots of mountain bikers around and it was still a popular place for a lunch stop for roadies.
Great area to ride with family and has lots of flat cycling lanes to enjoy

My thoughts are once you get out on the road and away from the coast it will be fine for decent rides.
Plenty of routes on Strava and just use the Majorca cycling specific map - I find it great for exploring.

    Enjoy!!
  • The roads are a lot quieter that side of the island, there is a climb at Felantix you can do or cross country via Inca if you want to do Soller/ Sa Colabra or follow the coast up to Alcudia/ Pollensa
I'm sorry you don't believe in miracles

Cross country to sineu is very rolling and very green, head to felanix and do salvador one of the best climbs on the island far better than a lot of the ones regulars go to.
Sineu and bacc via petra and manacir would be nice too. Stay off the major road though as the germans poulare that side of the island and the horrendous crash a few weeks ago with the porsche is no suprise with a lot of the driving that side of the island

Thanks for the further suggestions. I presume the weather will still be half decent at the end of September? I don't expect, or want, scorching sunshine but hopefully it will still be pleasantly warm and dry. Anyone have any experience of that time of year in Mallorca?

  • September should be nice! I've just launched my site: www.epicroadrides.com which has a free in-depth cycling guide to Mallorca: https://www.epicroadrides.com/destinati ... /mallorca/

The GPX routes are focused on the Serra Tramuntana mountains in the northwest but hopefully you'll find the other sections on bike hire, weather and tips for cycling in Mallorca useful. Let me know what you think!
