Hi,

I have worn out the larger chain ring and chain on my 2014 Giant Defy Composite 3 and wanting to buy a new cassette, chain and chainset.

The rear cassette is Shimano C4600 12-30
The chainset at the front is Tiagra Compact 34-50
The chain is KMC HG X10SL
The bottom bracket is HollowTech2 and doesnt need replacing.

I am struggling to find these components and wanting to know what other Tiagra components wil work with the existing shifters and derailiuer if anyone has gone through this process I'd greatly appreciate any advice please.

best wishes,

Chris

Your set up is 10-speed Tiagra but effectlvely any compact chainset will do the job. One of the cheaper options is the non-series Shimano RS510 at around £60

However you could pick up a second hand 105 or Ultegra chaoinset for less money. Just keep checking the classifeds on here or possibly Fleabay.

The 12-30 cassette is a bit more challenging as Shimano appear to have stopped making that option in the Tiagra and 105 ranges. Your closest option at a reasonable price would be the Shimano CS HG500 10-speed with ratios of 11-32

You can pick up a KMC 10-speed chain for £13.50 from Wiggle

Thanks mate. I've opted for Tiagra 4700 components so will find out in a few days if I did the right thing.

Just reporting back in case info is of any use to anyone.

    I fitted:

    Shimano Tiagra 4700 10 Speed Cassette (11-32/11-34)
    Shimano Tiagra FC4700 Chainset
    KMC X10-73 10 Speed Chain - 114 Links

All worked well once I realised I had run the chain outside of the tab on the jockey wheels and I'd taken out a couple of links from the chain as was too long at 114 links.

Big shout out to Brian at Surbiton Cycles http://www.surbitoncycles.com for waving his magic wand over the derailleur.
