Local authorities highway departments have a problem. If a pothole has been reported and before they do anything about it someone is injured or damage is sustained to a vehicle or property, they are liable. See one, report it and you just might be able to claim if you unavoidably ride into one that has been reported by someone and damage your bike.
I ride a bike. Doesn't make me green or a tree hugger. I drive a car too.

What's the deal with Hungry Hill anyway? Smoooth lovely tarmac, broken up teeth shattering stuff, smooth tarmac, repeat.
standard Surrey... repair the worst bits. allow the not so bad bids get worse than the old worse bits. don't repair.

    great way of working.

for me though some parts of Leith are really quite bad now. as in you have to change your line to avoid damaging a rim.

Coming down off of Leith Hill is beyond a joke at the moment, I’ve had to divert my led rides through Abinger Common, for safety’s sake. The edges of the road on the direct route, are crumbled almost into the centre of the road in places.

Haha! Been like that for a few years. Currently ok with it for my Flanders training, but after this weekend, will spend more time out Winsdor/Henley way. Roads are much better - must be cause the queen lives out that way.

Yeah. I've been cycling since 2015ish and never seen it any different. I always lament the slight gradient + headwind combination of that route out to Staple too.

I head out Berkshire way a lot myself. The roads between Windsor and Twyford and the Drift Road area are all quite nice and fairly empty. Also, no hills.

Saw a 5ft across pothole recently that had a pair of mallard ducks swimming in it :)

There are some potholes you’d need ropes and crampons to get out of on the descent of Ranmore Common to Westhumble, on today’s eveidence. It’s okay though, someone has spray painted around them, so the council’s back is covered.
