This weekend a friend commented in a group how stunned he was, and how concerned he still is, after seeing this:

That toke us all the coffee hour around the subject, and at some point I've tried to mention carbon clinchers that have some kind of metal (aluminium or titanium), inside their profile, where the tire bead stays, just to dissipate the heat from the carbon brake track.

I know some carbon clinchers to be built like that, but haven't found any exemple to give.

Do you guys remember some brand/model carbon clinchers that are build that way?

Thanks

There's absolutely no reason for anyone to be braking for 5 minutes solid.

You need to think of some other topics for your cafe discussions..

Example would be Cosmic Pro Carbon Exalith, its a mute subject unless as mentioned you break for a solid five minutes going down a hill, if that's the case you may want to look into alternative sports.

That's girls! But since some missus were aboard that topic was off limits, so it went to bicycles instead :D

Thanks. I've looked at Mavic website and it seems that the brake track is treated externally (correct me if I'm wrong!).

I was referring about some carbon wheels that have a metal construction underneath the outside carbon brake track. Is that Mavic's case?

The only wheel I can think of which is remotely similar to that description is Shimano's C24/35, which has a carbon laminate over an alu extrusion. But that has an alu brake track though, not a carbon one..

so we are talking about something that's described as a carbon rim with metal inside it?

most vendors do alloy wheels with carbon fairings (HED/ Shimano and the aforementioned exalith based mavics) then a full carbon wheel...

    i've never ever seen this.

    That was my first thought.

Not exactly a real world test, and not really news either - just an example of a someone designing a test that one product will "pass" and others will "fail".

Thanks! Those 2 wheels will serve to demonstrate my point.
