Pressing Hope barbs into hose

Any suggestions on how to press a Hope barb into the end of 5mm brake hose - it doesn't go in easily. I have a press that works for normal barbs where the maximum diameter of the barb is less than 5mm, but the Hope barb is >5mm diameter, and that prevents me extracting the hose from the press once the barb is fitted, so I can't use the press.
I much prefer the way that SRAM do their barbs, where the shaft of the barb is threaded and the other end takes a T10 Torx driver, so it's just a matter of threading the barb into the hose - no press needed.
