Thinking of buying a GPS to follow routes such as those published in various magazines and on sites such as strava.

Have tried the OS viewranger app on an iPhone and found it a little kludgy - but I did like the maps. looking for a standalone device though that can be bolted to my bars (and therefore a waterproof one).

Any suggestions?

I use one of the memory map devices with OS maps in it and you can upload routes. Mine is a tough phone with a fairly good camera and you can put a sim in it if you want. That multi purpose is quite pleasing. Had one (two) for years.

Garmin with maps. My 800 has done road and mtb duties for years. Is easy to download courses to, waterproof, great battery life etc.
