Giro Empire SLX Sizing

I bought some of these recently in a size 44. Not sure if they are too big as they slip a bit when I walk but not sure if that's due to the sole being so stiff? I ride a 44 Sidi at present and just tried a Giro Apeckx 2 in the LBS in a 44 and they are a perfect fit.

I realise you guys cant tell me if they fit or not but I just wondered if the slippage at the heel is ok? Last thing I want to do is by the pedals, fit the cleats then find I have issues riding! That would be an expensive mistake!

  • Personally if the heel slips in any shoe more than a few mm's I would feel they were too big for me. Factor in the movement of a cycling shoe when clipped in and this can exaggerate the feeling (especially when climbing out of the saddle). Just as a comparison I sized down in giro compared to sidi (43 sidi, 42 giro).

    Ok, last few weeks..
I’m a size in every day footwear:

    Fizik R3b’s 7.5, 8 and 8.5 all too tight
Rapha climbing shoes 8.5 too tight
Giro SLX, 8 too tight (toe at the end) 8.5 snug and have stuck with them (yet to ride in them).

I’m not 100% convinced a 9 would be better but as mentioned I think I’d get the slippage on the heel. Have you tried all the insoles that were supplied with them?

I suspect you need to do them up tighter, if you can! The SLX is, if anything, very slightly tighter than either the Sidi or Apeckx

Literally just bought a pair in 44 and breaking them in around the house now. Bit narrow in the toe box but fine in length. My heel also lifts a bit when I walk around but my fizik did the same and were fine on the bike.
I wouldn't worry about a bit of heel lift when walking, as this isn't really a movement that's replicated on the bike.

The thing is when I put them on they fit perfect. I tried them on the spin bike with pedal straps and they are ok. It’s only the walking thing putting me off. As I said I ordered a 44 and wear a uk size 9 shoe. I guess a 43.5 would be perfect? Shame it’s not available...
