Surly Disc Trucker - Frame Sizes

Morning All,
Not sure if I should ask here or in 'Road' section but....
I am currently hunting for a frame set - Surly Disc Trucker.
I am planning to build my 'proper' adventure bike around it c/w 26" wheels.
Here is my question regarding frame size:
I am 5.9 and currently riding Giant Anthem FS in frame size L - I find it perfect.
Judging by Surly sizing chart I should be looking for M 52-56cm...well
I was thinking of 56cm frame c/w 26" wheels if using flat bar but not quite sure if its going to work with dropped bars maybe 54 would be better option (its circa 2cm difference and probably may be compensated by different stems) ??
I know its best to go to LBS and try few sizes but no Surly stockist where I live.
What do you think/recommend chaps ??
