Lezyne Energy Caddy XL - Experiences?

Hi, just wondering if anyone has used the new(ish) Lezyne Energy Caddy XL?

I'm looking for a way to store more food than my pockets can handle for some epic long rides that I have planned for this spring/summer. I use the Lezyne Road Caddy as my emergency toolkit, think it's a fantastic piece of gear and the Energy Caddy XL looks of a similar construction. The new taller, squarer shape looks a bit better in terms of capacity compared to my current one.

If anyone has one, how much stuff can you actually pack into it e.g. max number of gels/energy bars?

Many thanks!

Just how long and epic will they be? if you are doing 200/400/600km rides then stopping for something to eat would be sensible. Also look at some of the stem bags from Alpkit or Restrap
I'm sorry you don't believe in miracles
  • Once this cold snap passes I'll be looking at starting at 100 miles, which is obviously easy enough to deal with logistically, but hoping to build up to something like a 200 miler or maybe 400 km in the summer for which I'm anticipating I'll need a bit more storage.

Not particularly keen on having to plan/stop for a shopping trip, nor on having a full-on bike-packing setup, just want something to add a bit of extra carrying capacity. I'm trying to eat more "real" food, because shovelling my face with all the sugar/butter common in pre-packaged food gets a bit sickly after a few hours, but has the unfortunate downside of being a bit more bulky.

Just to update my own thread in case anyone else is interested in this item, here's some (poor-quality) photos of it to give an idea of scale and shape. It's a bit bigger than I envisaged, but I figure if I'm going to strap crap like this to my bike then it may as well serve a decent purpose.

When I use a bento box thing on my top tube for ironman I always put a wrap of that ant slip rubber underneath it - stops the straps scratching the frame.

Energy gels are awful - put some flapjacks or similar in there.

    Good idea!

I think they have their place, but as you can see from my OP, my trying to move to more real food and the relative bulk associated with that was one of my reasons for resorting to this. Only mentioned gels because I figured they would be a fairly standard unit of size for comparison.

I saw both the Lezyne and a Topeak Fuel Tank in a store and I thought the Topeak was made a lot better, also the Topeak is water resistant.
