I’m a very long way from being a SKY fan but I do wish he’d just retire and shut up. Who cares what Mr Mod has to say now ?

Why quote him if you're not interested in what he says ? It's easy to ignore.

I find him quite hypocritical "don't join sky they will ruin you", "we want to be public rather than on a big black bus".
Okay that's fine, however you weren't complaining when you won the TDF with them, and if you really wanted to be public, what was in the jiffy bag?

He made an Instagram post explaining it was meant ironically - maybe it was or maybe he's back pedalling?

Either way, people need to lighten up and not take everything he says as gospel. Time and again he's shown that he likes winding people up.

As for him 'going away' - how is him using his name/branding to secure funding for a development team a bad thing? Its not like there are many others able to provide such a platform. Credit to him.

  • If you watch the video it does sound exceptionally tongue in cheek, I'm sure he is more aware than anyone else that he would not have anywhere near what he has now without Sky.

He’s probably right however. Himself going to Sky was a massively different situation in terms of career and where sky were. Both parties massively gained from the partnership. Also I’m I also the only one that thinks he’s better place will a Belgian squad in a few years

  • @cyclingweekly admitted this was said tongue in cheek and he was not having a pop at his former employer. “The headline was just clickbait”. Said a source.

It was interesting to hear the actual interview and how keen he was not to answer questions on Sky.

He was there to promote his own team and in the end I think he just put a flippant quote out to get the journos to shut up.

About 4 10 is the bit making the headlines but worth listening to the build up.

Most of what he said (and was buried in the few articles that actually reported it) is very sensible. The one bit I'd disagree with is about Owain Doull. He was 23 when he won the Olympics. Another year at continental level and he risked being a forgotten man.
Pidcock just needs to look and Tao GH. He was confident that he'd get a contract whatever, so he took a year more at continental level (he was still only 21 when he turned pro). Maybe he could even look to Van der Poel and Van Aert who could both whistle up a big contract at any time (Stybar didn't turn road pro until he was 26).
