Pro-life Revo disc wheels as tubeless...

Hi all, sorry if this question is better posted in the "Workshop" section, or elsewhere..

Is anyone on here successfully running tubeless tyres on their Pro-life Revo disc wheels? I've just bought a pair of WTB TCS tyres (32mm Exposures) and tubeless valves, but not sure if i also need tubeless rim tape too - I have ordered some more tape just in case, but wasnt sure if the factory fit tape was already tubeless ready? Any experiences?

Also, I've had real issues mounting some clincher tyres on these rims; Vittoria Randonneurs and Schwalbe Duranos being the worst, though larger volume Challenge Gravel Grinders and Vittoria Hyper Voyagers being no problem. Has anyone had experience of mounting (and sealing) WTB TCS tyres on these rims?

I've used WTB TCS on Kinesis CXD wheels and they work well, though were a little loose or "baggy"on first fit, until the sealant took. I'm kind of hoping this may mean the TCS tyres will play nice with the slightly larger Revo rims.

Cheers

Excellent BTR! I did look at your review on the Revo wheels hoping for some further insights on your experience of running them as tubeless, but missed that helpful article. Slightly perturbed by the suggestion to first mount the tyres with tubes to allow them to get their shape. I understand why, just wary of the buggeration factor I had with the Duranos I put on before Xmas :( Hopefully if the WTB tyres are looser it'll be ok.

Tyres (and tape) arrived at my local Collect+ place today so will pick up later. Valves hopefully following tomorrow as forgot to order with the tyres, so now looking like a mid week job rather than this weekend....

Hopefully the WTB will be a bit easier! It does vary.

I've just got a new CX bike with WTB rims and WTB tyres so I'm hoping for ease of sorting

  • And, tempting fate, I popped out to change the Cross Boss to the G-One for now.

Getting the Cross Boss to unseat was very very very hard work. But once off the G-One went on with fingers only. I suspect the Cross Boss will go back on easily too.

I don't mind struggling to unseat as much as struggling to get them on. So, so far, WTB rims good.

Yes, saw you'd got a new bike. Nice, and a great price 8)
I'm sure I'd read somewhere that my Kinesis CXD wheels used WTB TCS rims so maybe not a surprise the WTB tyres worked well on them. They'll be my back up if I can't get the WTB tyres to work with the Revo's so no great harm if doesn't work out (apart from wasted tape).

BTW, having now opened the box the Exposures look to be a like a nice allround tyre, for a mix of broken tarmac and rougher stuff: http://www.wiggle.co.uk/wtb-exposure-tcs-road-tyre/

Nice looking tyres those. Now the G-One are on it looks like I have enough clearance for up to 45c or so. So will be getting some Nano 40c and Riddler 45c to try out.

^Nano's rock in TCS - I'll be getting the tan wall version when the current ones wear out 8)

How long til you try 650b, assuming the new bike has the clearance?

It does, I think, would be interesting to give it a go.

I used the Hutchinson SECTOR 32s on my Revos and it worked fine once they were on the rim. Thankfully I never had to try to get them off again.

Day off today so thought I'd tackle the Revo's and tubeless WTB Exposures. Only tried front wheel, removed tube and thought I'd have a go fitting tyre with existing rim tape, Just to try for size and potentially let the tyre find its shape. No way that tyre was going on that rim!

Now after any hints or tips.... Heat tyres with a hairdryer before fitting? Leave them in them in the airing cupboard for a few days?

....stuck my trusty Hyper Voyagers back on in the meantime as much plusher than the 28mm Duranos that came off.

  • Warm bath, fairly liquid etc helps. Try the BBB tyre tool too. But, yes, they are annoying. Don't forget that you can use massive force as long as you don't break the tyre as there will be no tube to mash up.

Already have the VAR heavy duty levers but they're not beefy enough for this. BBB tool now ordered, but out of desperation have also ordered this:

Hopefully between them I'll get the tyres on, then I can reward myself with the "fairly liquid" hot bath!

  • LOL! That looks pretty good actually, when I put my G-One Speed on the WTB this week I'll see how that goes. May invest too.
