Hi
I am looking to upgrade my la pierre spicy 316 2008 from a 3x9 to a 2x10.
There are lot of questions I would like answered ok so first is this a good idea or do I stick to. the 3x9 (I ride enduro BTW) or upgrade.
How much would it cost?
If I do this should I upgrade brakes at the same time from 180mm to 200mm
Thx

New mech, shifter, cassette, chain, and either chainrings or crankset as might as well get all new stuff while you're at it.

Cost - how long is a piece of string, depends whether you want top end or bottom end.

But fashion seems to be going for 1x11 or 1x12.

Only you know what ratios you need.

    Are your current brakes inadequate?

If your upgrading to a new drive train have a look for offers on slx 1x11 etc loads of deals about on bike parts.

Moving to Sram you'd have to change the freehub on the rear wheel to an xd driver if you bought gx eagle.

All depends on what you have now which is?

I skipped over 2x10 and went straight to 1x11, I didn't pass go and collect two hundred pounds.

I would advise you to do the same. Ditch the front mech and shifter.

32t and 10-42 back is a compromise but the limitations do not bother me.
  • Yeah I could ditch the front and go for a 1 by system but I also use my bike in town so I still want to be able to do 30 kph on flat
I thought the 2 by system would be best
    Any suggestions?

    30kph doesn’t need multiple chainrings....

I’m still using a 9 speed mech on my 1x10 as replacing my beloved XTR was going to be pricey.
