Your Club awards night success

Hi,

I maybe in the wrong section, for which I apologise, but I was hoping to ask the question to other members about their cycling clubs presentation nights/annual award night/family night etc.

At my clubs recent annual award night it attracted around 35 folk, which I don't feel is a great representation of the club given we have over 200 members and many of the attendees were partners and some children.

What I would love is to be able to put forward a proposition to the club to make the club night a more enjoyable, social event that people will want to come back to. Our recent night was in a hotel bar with a small buffet, trophy presentation to about 8 folk and that was about it.

If anyone has anything from their club award nights or presentations that they could share that made their night a real success, I'd love to know. I have a few ideas but I was hoping for some inspiration.

Does your club have a sit down meal or buffet?
Do you give out a lot of prizes/trophies - do you encourage awards for those who are not the racing snakes of the club?
Does your club night have a different format, such as raffle with presentations interspaced within this?

Thank you in advance.

  • The promise of a well stocked bar that stays open until very late seems to bring the crowds to my club's awards night!

In my club's case, get Sir Dave Brailsford to present the awards. That got a good turnout even though it was outside on an icy cold November night!
