Hi I have a bike with ultegra 6800 on and have seen a lovely new bike I'm my LBS at great er price equipped with 105 5800 question is, it it worth getting the groupset switched over before selling my older bike or just keep them as is as operational wise not much in it and be easier to see old bike with the ultegra on it?

The advantages of Ultegra 6800 over 5800 are:
    - its about 250 grams lighter
    - the chainset doesn't have the dirt collection magnet reverse of the 105
    - the rear derailleur has bearings / ceramic bushings rather than brass bushings (so less likely to clog up with less than perfect maintenance)
Other than that they are pretty much identical, certainly very hard to split functionally

If your Ultegra is in perfect nick and you can do the swap yourself probably worth doing it; if it wasn't or you have to pay the LBS an hourly rate for the swap probably not worth bothering.
  • Cheers, would need get the LBS do it for me, so probably better just sticking what I have.

The Ultegra front mech shifts mile better than the 105 too.
