The flu and cycling

Anyone else had a bout of the current flu virus?
I’ve been feeling generally unwell ever since my Dr put me on beta blockers to reduce migraine.
Side effects of those... joint pain and I mean pain!
A resting heart rate of 30 or less!
I have a naturally low HR but medically induced sub 30, err no thanks.
Totally bone weary and no riding other than a few Kickr sessions, but nothing to shout about.
Then 10days ago I get the flu virus, and wow.. do I get it!
We moved house yesterday, if I tell you I was unable to lift a finger for the entire week leading up to the move!
My Mrs has been a hero, completely, so I guess my message is, if you feel ill don’t try riding through it, I will be lucky if I get back on my bike in Feb, that’s how bad I feel, and my winter training was going to be sooo super productive this year!
Ah well, you know the saying.. Man plans... God laughs!!!
I had to laugh, one of the removal lads apparently picked up the TCR and was amazed by it’s lightness etc.... cheeky f..er says to wife... looking at state of your fella I bet this is going to be an ornament now!! And... I’m paying for those insults!!!

It's knocked me for six too. Three weeks with no exercise and just starting back now. I do think it's better to rest up rather than just prolong it cos you haven't ridden in ages...

Suggest OP returns to the GP. There are alternatives to beta - blockers for migraine prophylaxis......
FFS! Harden up and grow a pair :D

Had to flu from Christmas Eve through to second week of January. Tried riding the first weekend afterwards and realised what a mistake it was after ending in a coughing spluttering heap after 10 miles. The actual main part of the flu took just over 2weeks to get over, but the dregs of it didn’t disappear and most fitness return until 6 weeks. I don’t suffer from many colds or illnesses so was quite surprised by how this bout knocked me for six.
  • Since getting a really bad bout of flu about 12 years ago, I now get jab every year through work. Not 100% guaranteed to stop it but highly recommended as if you get proper flu and not just man flu, it's miserable beyond believe.

I've been ill for nearly a week now also.
    Kick in the balls.
Just gotta gently get back on the bike
  • I've not had the flu recently, but I had a head cold for ~6 weeks from late September, which only on the odd day felt like it was in my airways a little.

It played havoc with my training, especially as it was always a weekly occurrence where it would feel as if it was going, only to come bad harder. Some days I could push quite hard, other days I had to be take it quite easy.

I'm not quite sure how I avoided my better half's cold around Xmas, but it crossed my mind that perhaps it was the same thing I came down with.

I've been pretty much knocked sideways by a cold and cough for the last 6 weeks. Only today able to get back on the turbo for a light workout just to get the legs spinning again. Like someone else mentioned I don't usually suffer too badly so this was a bit of a shock and just couldn't believe how long it's taken to get rid of it.

I regularly get something I would argue is worse.

I feel fine - but get mucus on my vocal chords if I cycle in the extreme cold - and once it starts it doesn't go until the warmer weather comes - really frustrating.
