My Avast subscription will be ending shortly and I am pondering whether to stick with them or try something different.
Can anyone recommend one that is not mega-bucks but provides excellent protection. Was thinking maybe Bitdefender, but maybe not Kaspersky (Russian).
Whaddaya think ?

Or you could just use Microsoft security essentials/windows defender for free....
And virustotal for anything suspect you come across.
Still, it's your money, do what you like with it.0 -
Yup, I see no need for anything other than MSE0

Step 1 - Don’t go on dodgy sites.
Step 2 - Don’t click on dodgy links.
Eliminates most problems. The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.Veronese68 wrote:PB is the most sensible person on here.0 -

What's the rationale now for the Nortons and McAfees of this world now for your average Joe home internet browser person? If Msoft albeit late to the party have recognised the issue of security?0

Avast free comes up recommended alot on tech forums/reviews
Norton used to crash my pc or grind it to a halt as did AVG so switched to Mcafre which gave me less problems, found Avast and yet to have any issue, Windows firewall is meant to be as good as any basic off the shelf option0 -
Ebay.
Pay < a fiver, buy a product key, download and install. Norton, Mcafee etc, take your pick.
Voila!0 -
Since I've been on Windows 10, I've been mostly content with Windows Defender. A recent experiment with BitDefender led to some gobbling up of memory resources, so I've gone back to Defender. Past experiments have been with most of the rest at various times, and Avast came out as the least problematic, though I got tired of the incessant pop-ups with the free version.0

Work pays for bullguard. Worst av you can buy IMHO. Especially if work hasn't changed your laptop for some time.0
