Wahoo Elemnt and live tracking

Has anyone else used the live tracking feature on the Elemnt? I have a Bolt, but I assume that the larger Elemnt will be the same.
The problem I have is that when I have used the live tracking feature it has consumed a lot of the battery power in my phone. I have only used it on fairly short rides (< 5 hours including cafe stop) up to now, and the phone has been nearly dead by the end of the ride. There is no need for the phone to be using GPS as I would have thought it was getting the data from the Elemnt over bluetooth, and the screen is off so why is so much power being used?
Or is it just me and some issue with my phone? It is a relatively elderly HTC One M7 (maybe 5 years old?).
I could do with more testing to confirm my suspicions, but I did a longer ride this weekend and I didn't want to have a dead phone at the end of the ride.

Not had a problem with LiveTrack on an Elemnt and an iPhone.I ride a bike. Doesn't make me green or a tree hugger. I drive a car too.0

Same here, no problem with iPhone 7 and a Bolt using live tracking. Are you in a poor phone signal area?Cube Reaction GTC Pro 29 for the lumpy stuff
Cannondale Synapse alloy with 'guards for the winter roads
Fuji Altamira 2.7 for the summer roads
Trek 830 Mountain Track frame turned into a gravel bike - for anywhere & everywhere0 -
No probs here either - using a Samsung Galaxy S8.0

Thanks for the responses, I'll do some more testing.
I don't think phone signal will be a problem, I live in Tamworth and the local rides are never very far from civilisation, and there's certainly (sadly) few hills to obstruct the signal.0
