Looking forward to summer days, my short sleeve jerseys, shorts, bright colours, sunglasses on and rides down the coast...Coffee and cake and a warm breeze in my face...

It usually tends to bugger off around Spring. End of February.
That is no guarantee that the weather will improve though.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

It's going to be 10 degrees here. Summery enough for you ?

It wasn't completely dark when I got home yesterday, spring is coming. Temperature was in double figures too.

It could be 25 degrees of blazing sunshine and wind free calm today. It would still be winter.

The joys of living on an island. 13c when I was out last night. In january FFS. Of course I put on too much kit and boiled myself alive.

I'll no doubt do the reverse when the next cold spell arrives...

I'm, also looking forward to warmer weather, not had central heating since 12th December!

Do you live in the UK? That's not a description of summer that I recognize.

For the sake of your sanity I hope that's because it's broken rather than some sort of "it's not cold, when I were a lad..." machismo. Hope you have some alternative form of heating.

Sadly its not broken (other than I decided to rip it apart in the middle of winter).

I'd saved up a load of holiday to renovate my bathroom after the previous project was completed (man cave), and had to take it by end of 2017. So started the bathroom renovation on the 12th Dec, and as it included putting in a new towel radiator I had to drain the CH...and I was planning on moving a few rads anyway so thought might as well crack on and replace them all.

Bathroom is Functional, radiators are hung, now to plumb them all up...this weekend should see a fair bit of progress.

I do have a 3KW convection heather with turbo fan, it gets one room at a time up to 16 degrees or so which is OK when wearing thermals and most importantly, I have an electric blanket on my bed!

  • Count yourself lucky, here in Sweden we have at least another 2 months of icy roads and darkness to look forward to before the turbo can be put away.

I actually quite like some aspects of riding in the winter. Lower nodder count, less busy favourite coffee stops, Allez man is ( mostly ) still hibernating. There’s no such thing as the wrong weather, just the wrong kit. #5 #9.

I work ‘odd’ hours. I get the advantage of seeing the increasing daylight hours, earlier than a lot of people. It also means my ‘body clock’ is used to me being up and about, at ‘stupid o’ clock’, so I get to take advantage of it. You’re right, it’s getting noticeably lighter, early doors, and getting darker later. Happy days. It was blowing a bit of a hooley at 6 this morning, but it was + 12 degrees C, and it was only drizzling, so the decision to ride home was sound.

Poor planning rather than machismo  I can relate to that.

I've really enjoyed this winter training. Good kit and a new jacket and it's been great. Nice and cosy in my big jacket on the commute going past all the cars.

Don't do what I did just before Christmas. Replaced 2 radiators. Naturally they were different sizes requiring alterations to the pipework, so I drained the system down. For reasons which now escape me, I decided to refill it with one of the rads not connected. Painting the wall while avoiding hypothermia I think.

I'm not a complete idiot; I'd attached the valves to the end of the pipes and made sure they were closed. Then into the loft to chuck the inhibitor in the header tank and turn the water back on.

I arrived back in the lounge to find a shrieking wife and an indoor water feature. The TRV I thought was shut wasn't, and it was sending a jet of water so vigorous it was hitting the opposite wall. I struggled to clamp my thumb over it while trying to explain to my lovely assistant how to attach the head of the valve which seemed to be the only way of stopping it, and all the while insisting that the Fernox we were being sprayed with wasn't toxic in any way :D

25th March - clocks change, suddenly it's light until almost 8pm and I can get out for 2 hours in daylight after work. And with any luck it will be shorts temperature by then. Should be a national holiday or something.

I’ve managed a total of 25 miles this year. Two commutes at the beginning of the month and I’ve been ill ever since! Currently coughing my lungs up every 10 seconds, can’t sleep, chest and stomach muscles are knackered from coughing and I get short of breath just walking up the stairs.

Those two holidays in the Alps I’ve got booked for August and September feel like a lifetime away at the moment.

You're not wrong. The thing that grinds me down about winter here is that for the short time it's light it's nearly always just damp and grey. If it was actually below freezing so it didn't feel so damp I'd prefer it. I really try not to moan when it's hot as it seems so ungrateful.
Mind you not completely dark when I got to work at 7.30.
  • Valentine's day is my marker. For us commuters, 7.30 sunrise time means light at more or less 7 on the good days and 5.30 sunset meaning light till more or less 6. Making a 9-5 working day palatable.

  • The last few weeks have been so miserable, my commute extension hill reps have gone from ~1500 to ~650 feet and I'm not sure if I've done more than two recreational hill rep rides this year, rather than typically ~3 per week... Thank goodness for the pre-Xmas turbo purchase and Zwift, compared to last year when I started my fitness quest, I'm +67Km distance and +1500m elevation according to Stravistix.

For a change, there is blue sky and it's +6C out there today at the mo... I might go outside!

    Oh Rodney you plonker!

Hopefully this won't happen to me, I've got a wee dry pressure tester to test it for leaks first
