Restoring .fit files

On arriving home last night, instead of choosing to uploading the ride from my Garmin 810 to Garmin Connect (via phone) I chose delete.

So going from a few old posts on here, I downloaded Recuva (and another deleted file restore software) which found the deleted .fit file and I then attempted to upload to Strava.

But strava wouldn't have it. The file is 18kb, about the same size as the other .fit files so think it has the info.

I also tried converting to a .csv file and then back to a .fit file, but Strava would only recognise it as a route and not a ride.

Does anyone know how to restore/repair a .fit file, even if by going into the data via the .csv file and removing the corrupted info?

No big drama if not, wasn't an epic ride, but being a bit anal about my data I'd like to try and retrieve it and would be good to know for in the future.

Cheers

Upload the .fit into this website then convert to autofix.fit then upload to Strava.

Always works for me when my 500 plays up.

You could try the Garmin online fit repair tool:http://garmin.kiesewetter.nl/ to see if that fixes it.

I have Fit File Repair Tool (a tool you need to pay for) that I could use to look at the file if you would like to see if there is any valid data.

    Cheers for the responses.

I tried that website last night, should have probably said. The autofix didn't work, so tried to convert to .csv and then back to .fit and that's when Strava was saying it was a route and not a ride.

Even tried uploading to garmin connect and putting the file on the 810 and uploading that way - none of which worked.

No biggie, was just hoping because I found the deleted file so easily it would have been as straightforward as uploading to strava.

I did the same a few weeks before Christmas, couldn't get an of the suggestions to work so just did a manual entry into strava, obviously doesn't record segments etc. but not too fussed about that.

This query intrigued me so I spent a little time reading about .fit files.

    This link was interesting, https://www.thisisant.com/forum/ant-dev ... 4275/#6588
It was all about a guy who wanted to write his own software that would generate valid .fit files describing activities presumably done on his indoor cycling 'thing' so that they coudld be uploaded to garmin connect.

The guidance he got was to look at some .fit files created by a genuine garmin device and make sure he followed that template.

The detail on what can be inside a fit file and some routines to manipulate them can be found here.

You may or may not want to get this deep into it!
