Garmin Edge 520-indoor trainer elevation

Hi

Just a little puzzled and wondering whether anyone here can help? I've successfully paired my 520 with an indoor trainer and uploaded a course from Garmin Connect. However the upload doesn't record the total ascent or a map of the course yet shows all the other metrics.

Is there a trick I am missing? Any help very much appreciated.

    Yes you are missing a trick. It's because you are not actually moving anywhere or gaining any elevation. You are bolted to your turbo trainer, that is all your Garmin knows. You are merely following an uploaded route and (I'm assuming smart trainer) the resistance is increasing or decreasing according to the recorded gradient from your route.

    Speed and distance taken from your paired trainer or speed sensor.
