Mornin' all,

So I got the elmnt bolt for Christmas, all so far has been well with it, but now it's telling me there's an update for it, but no matter what I seem to do, it won't update?

Anything I'm missing?

Make sure you are connected to your home network, that the Bolt is charged and power it on.

once on, press the power button again and go to system info. Press open and head towards Check for updates.

You can also upgrade through the Companion App

Mine only seems to update when connected to WiFi, which you can set up easily in the companion app.
  • As above poster mentions, it updates via the iPhone/Android app (which then initiates a firmware update of the unit over wifi)

Loving the little unit thus far have to say.

Just a note, I have never manually updated, done a check today and it is up-to-date. I believe because I turn it on in the house on wifi, it does auto-update when new version is found, I have seen before in the startup sequence it saying updating, I assume that is firmware update.

Love this thing to bits, been spot on all the time and so easy to load maps and data all synced back, very little fuss. Think I have had mine for 9 months.

    ^^^Exactly this^^^ (except I have had mine 5 months).
Cube Reaction GTC Pro 29 for the lumpy stuff
Cannondale Synapse alloy with 'guards for the winter roads
Fuji Altamira 2.7 for the summer roads
Trek 830 Mountain Track frame turned into a gravel bike - for anywhere & everywhere

    Well an update..

I forgot that it needed an update, but I've just checked it after jpower saying it can auto update when connected to the wifi, low and behold it's seems to have auto updated and now on the latest firmware.

    Thanks all.

Love it a lot also and think that is miles better than my old Garmin Edge 500, and comparing it to a friends Edge 1000 I continue to say that it is miles better than Garmin's.

To turn it absolutely perfect I wish he had re-route functionality. That's the only thing I miss from the Garmin unit, but in the end the goods far far outweigh that one and only fault.

Off topic question (think its ok as original question is resolved).

I wanted to talk something on my snowboarding trip to track runs, I don't like the idea of a watch because when wearing all the gear the watch is not easy to reach. I'm tempted to take my elemnt bolt as its small and has a nice button to start and stop (during ski lifts). But am equally worried about it being able to handle the cold and bumps that I may have.

    Any thoughts?

I wouldn't bother. It's not made to withstand bumps and knocks.

This is way off topic but I use Ski Tracks on my iPhone for that.

I’ve used it all week for skiing. Ski tracks etc better but the bolt tracks everything superbly well. Just doesn’t differentiate runs and lifts.
