Indexing Shimano 1 x gears

Have just set up my bike with a Sram Apex 1x chainset, 5700 shifters, 4700 rear mech, 11-32 4700 cassette and a KMC 10 speed chain and have indexed the gears so it is shifting perfectly across all gears apart from the 11 sprocket where it sounds like its jumping slightly, the jockey wheels are under the cassette and no amount of fiddling with cable tension is making any difference. I have adjusted the limit screws and they are also set properly.

Any ideas?

I was thinking maybe the mech hanger needs aligning but its shifting across the rest of the block fine?

You've let the jockey wheels come just outboard of the 11t, right? I.e. just a bit beyond towards the dropout?

  • The 4700 rear mech is not compatible with the 5700 shifters. The cable pull is different.

Replace the mech with pretty much any other shimano road mech that isn't 11 speed or a 4700 and I'm sure your problems will go away.

Faster97 - thanks, I should have researched this a little more than i did then, looks like I am buying a new rear mech.

Funnily enough, apparently a Shimano RD-M592 Deore Shadow Rear Mech will work as well, just need an inline barrel adjuster which I already have, plus its cheaper than the 5701 GS mech too and will allow a larger cassette if I ever need one.

Anyone want to buy a nearly new (50 miles max) Tiagra 4700 rear mech, genuine reason for sale!
