There are 5 models of rockhopper, which one are you looking at?
The xcaliber8 has rather a poor fork at its price point, there are better available such as the Voodoo Bizango, the similar priced Rockhopper Expert has a better fork than the Trek, but still not as good as the Bizango.
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.
