Planning a little 5 day trip to Menorca in June. A friend has a place there so free accomodation & cheap flights etc as outside of school holidays.

Has anyone hired bikes over there? Any advice appreciated.

Bike Menorca in Mahon looks reasonable, they will do us a deal on 5 bikes including free delivery out to our accomodation (Son Parc) 5 bikes for 5 days at 90 euros each (450 euros total inc delivery) - Specialized Tarmac SL4 carbon. Reviews are good

Thanks

I can recommend A Roda in Alaior.
I’ve hired bikes from him a few times, nice guy (his name is Tito).
Costs me €100 for 5/6days for a decent Giant road bike.
He’s very friendly, helpful, don’t even need to take my own pedals, he just sorts out what I need, but email him first....
The island is like a fish skeleton with main road down middle with roads out to coast and bays.
I would recommend buying a local map and try to avoid the main road. There’s a couple of decent climbs in the middle if you want them.
Anything else you want to know I’ll try to help

I did a bit of cycling in Menorca a couple of years ago and posted some info here. Hope it helps.

I've been to Menorca few times - never cycled but last year got very close to it and did some research into options.

There's Happy Menorca in Son Parc itself, which gets good reviews and appears to offer MTB and road bikes (Orbea).
There's also Just Fun Bikes in the neighbouring resort of Arenal d'en Castell, but they seem to specialise in fat bikes, MTBs, hybrids and e-bikes.

I have stayed several times in Son Parc - it's a quiet resort, mostly made of buy-to-rent or personal holiday properties. Fantastic beach though and some great wooded areas to explore. I was in Arenal d'en Castell last year which is a bit more lively (in a good, grown-up way) and has a small water park.

During transfers to the airport (around 30 minutes or so) we saw a couple of small pelotons along the main road. The road into Son Parc has a reasonable incline for a bit of climbing.

Have also stayed in Cala'n Porter, but didn't investigate options there.

  • Thanks all. Most helpful.

I know the island very well but haven't been since i got into road cycling. I've emailed Happy Menorca as they're convenient

Looking forward to it, smooth roads and sunshine. What's not to like?

  • PS to my earlier contribution:
There at two decent hills to climb, one to the monastery at El Toro and the other Sa Roca from the north.
The main ME1 can get busy so a better bet is the Cami Kane which is the old main road when Britain ruled the waves and runs parallel with hardly any traffic.
There’s also some decent rides out to the lighthouses on the north side.

Great place for brekkie/ lunch stop is Fornells

Take plenty of water with you, it can get very hot with not many places to get more.
