    Potato hunting.
    One of the Dutch speakers will give the correct Dutch expression, but it's meaning is to be caught alone between the peloton and a break you're trying to bridge to.

    I like how the Dutch always say when people are attacking from behind or chasing they are “going to” the person or group ahead.

    And if it’s not clear, and they’re chasse patate, they ask “waar gaat hij naar toe” ie where is he going to?

    I much prefer “lossen” to being dropped. Literally looseneing, as if they are tied to the group but need to undo the ropes ( albeit it’s a completed action, not ongoing.)

    “Afzien” means literally “seeing off” but is used for when it’s a big long painful effort which involves lots of suffering, eg Boonen’s solo Roubaix effort or a super tough stage.
