Thinking of buying a used Specialized Allez Sport 2014

I’m in the market for a winter bike and have found one for sale but it’s a 56” and my Canyon is a 54” I do feel a little cramped but not enough to worry about. I’m 5ft 8” will the Allez be too big? Also the bike looks in good condition but will probably have to replace saddle, tyres, pedals and bar tape. The seller wants £260 is this fair?

If it's in good condition the price is good, if you have to replace half of the components not so much.
The Allez has semi compact geometry, so you might find a 56 quite a bit larger than your Canyon. I'm 5ft 7 and I passed up the chance to get a good price 54 because I felt it was too large for me, it was marginal though. You need to remember the old adage that it is much easier to make a smaller bike fit you through a longer stem, spacers etc than to shrink a bike that is too large.
So try it - if not perfect walk away. Price isn't amazing enough to put up with any compromises (no price is though really!)0 -
Why buy it if it’s the wrong size and you have to replace half the parts?
It’s just an Allez - loads of them about so just wait until you find a 54.Postby team47b » Sun Jun 28, 2015 11:53 am

Thanks guys and your both right about size and replacing parts although I would expect to replace those parts with the exception of maybe tyres on any used bike I bought. I have in mind a serviceable winter ride for £300 that I won’t get too upset over if it gets damaged etc. Or stolen if I use it for commuting. I might hang fire on this one and see if I can get a 54” and it doesn’t have to be any particular brand.0

Triban 500 is under your budget brand new at Decathlon and gets good reviews.Postby team47b » Sun Jun 28, 2015 11:53 am

I'm 5ft 8 and ride a 54cm Tarmac and Allez.
I had a bike fit done and for my measurements the Allez and Tarmac 54s are the correct size.
I love my Allez, it's a brilliant bike.0 -

Very useful - thank you.
I'm sure it's a brilliant bike if it fits you.
If it doesn't fit you and is knackered it's just a bike that is knackered and doesn't fit you.Postby team47b » Sun Jun 28, 2015 11:53 am

I spotted this “SPECIALIZED ALLEZ E5 SPORT ROAD BIKE 2017” for £559 brand new delivered, gets great reviews, lovely looking and comes with latest Sora which by all accounts is very good. Yeah I know it’s well over budget but I’m not having much luck at £300, most people in my area want £400+ for a 3yr Allez and when I make an offer on Facebook markets I don’t even get a reply most of the time. I’m seriously considering just buying new and avoiding pitfalls.0

If you do buy new (a 2018 model) bear in mind there is a recall for the forks:

Isn’t an issue as they will replace them, just info for you to check...
