I have an XT 2x10 drivetrain on my Giant Anthem with a 40-28 chainset and 11-36 cassette. Can i replace my 28 chainring for a 22 without compromising front derailleur shifting?

It'll be a massive jump and you'll need to reposition the mech lower.

At the moment your drive chain capacity is (40-28)+(36-11) = 37teeth.

What you are proposing will give you a capacity of 43t.

The maximum capacity of the XT rear derailleur is, I think, 43t so you will be on the limit as far as that is concerned.

However, the front derailleur may not be able to handle such a big change.

Is it the original chainset? I don't think I have ever seen an Anthem with such a big chainring.

Xt 10 speed mech is listed as having 14t capacity.

So 40 - 14 is as low as is recommended. Do the sums and I think what you are planning is unlikely to work.

I don't believe the make and model of the bike alters the operating parameters of the shifter.;)
