Domane Frame Respray - N.I.

Morning all,

Instead of spending loads on a new bike, I'm going to treat my Domane 6 series to a respray - it has a few scrapes now, and I have always really liked the chameleon blue/purple of the S-Works Tarmac, so hoping to do something along those lines.

I've seen a few airbrush companies locally, but they are more motorbike & helmet specialists....and more importantly the prices look very high!

Any recommendations much appreciated.

I've not used this guy but he's a frame builder in both steel and carbon and also does carbon repair and frame painting.

  • I've seen "Joe's Bespoked Bike" from the Donard site in the flesh, and the photos don't remotely do it justice. It's sometimes on show in Velo Café Magasin.
Victory Chimp did the designs for that bike and the dark green one on the site, I don't know if there's any continuing relationship, though.

I've seen some work from Chris Custom Designs in Scarva. Also very nice. Clubmate has an old CAAD10 painted up as a Sagan 100 edition SS Evo and it's really very, very good.

Thanks a lot for the suggestions - a couple of options for me to explore this morning!
  • Prices probably seemed high, coz that's what you'll expect to pay for a decent job!

I've been quoted IRO £400-£500 for a full frame n fork job.

Still, cheaper than a new frame! I think this is going to get more and more common as ppl with top-end frames wake up to the fact that new kit is getting more ridiculous than ever, and a top-level frame from a few years ago is still a top-end frame...

You’re right Pippi, no matter what frame I would get, I won’t be much faster! I love the Domane, so if I can get a really striking paint job done, it’s just as good as a new bike to me....and even better, it’ll be personal.

p.s: this decision is why I didn’t get back to you on the SRAM groupset....sorry!

I know it's not N.I - but Argos Cycles would get my vote and it's well worth boxing the frame up and sending it to them.

Thanks for that Imposter, thinking about it, I certainly wouldn’t mind packing and shipping for the best finish, so will add to the list.
  • The best in the business (well the UK anyway) has got to be Fatcreations, but thanks to all the publicity he’s been getting the waiting list is huge. I think it’s 12 months now :-(

    No worries!

Kustomflow also look amazing, but as already mentioned, prepare to be added to a waiting list...

    Hi @bsharp77 ,
Did you ever get this repainting done?
Just wondering how you got on and who you used (if local).

    Cheers

If you don't mind boxing up and posting, Atlantic Boulevard are v v highly viewed, but not cheap.

Sound put Pinno on here for more info.
    .
The camera down the willy isn't anything like as bad as it sounds.
  • I ended up getting an old Scott Foil Team Issue frame re-sprayed with Tom @ Kustomflow. I can highly recommend...
