Assos man RIP

I went over to the Assos website to check the progress of my Black Friday order and Assos have completely revamped their website and all traces of Assos man (and Assos woman) have been expunged.

The end of an era! Assos have obviously revamped their marketing strategy, probably for the better.

Shame Assos woman is no longer with us though. There's always the factory outlet website I guess ;-)

Good, Assos man was creepy. I like to think it's their advertising the reason why I don't own any of their stuff but really it's because I'm too poor.

Also, they got rid of assos woman because of some lame social justice equality rubbish about how women are apparently athletes [/sarcasm]:

he was featured on gcn a couple of months ago in a vid (ad) about assos.

he was a middle aged, small but athletic bloke with curly hair who seemed quiet but very nice.

not quite the terminator figure he's depicted as in their slightly bizarre ads.

  • Cyclist magazine had one of their 'Big Rides' articles with the Assos bloke joining them. He sounded like a very decent rider, triathlete as well if I remember correctly. When I read the thread title I thought he'd died!

Just googled it - Andrea Zamboni is his name

Oops, I meant Assos man as the advertising creation, not the actual guy.

Perhaps I should have entitled the thread 'The end of Assos Man' or something similar.

me too for a minute, their ads always made them seem abit stuck in the 90s though because of it, and they'd improved their female image side by actually not having their model half naked and showing side cleavage all the time.

so that email telling me their website has changed isnt a phising attempt then.

'Stuck in the 90s' - God that makes me feel old.

The 90's was an amazing decade, truly the last time that music was original and great, a time when we used to say 'stuck in the 70's'

I see Assos have Juliet Elliot (ex-Vogue) as a model.

I think ambassador is the word you're looking for.

If that's the case, then yes it is.

They've gone more like Rapha with pictures of suffering cyclists in the rain.

Since Assos was sold in 2015, the new owners made clear they did not like the "sexist" advertising
