Hi all, i was wondering if you could help. I'm currently looking at purchasing a wheelset up to £1400 although i'm restricted to wheelies as have a voucher so having trouble trying to find something. Looking ideally for something aero and not to heavy.
any thoughts on the best buy?
So far i'm thinking of either:
Reynolds Strike SLG clincher:

Fast Forward F6R Clincher Road Wheelset

Mavic Cosmic Pro Carbon Exalith Road Wheels 2018

any other thoughts/suggestions?

thanks in advance

  • Why are you looking at a wheelset of up to £1400?

But, aero and not to heavy, Hunt wheels, see review on road.cc yesterday.

    Facebook? No. Just say no.
  • I do like Hunt wheels but unfortunalty they are not available on Wheelies (I have a voucher to use up and don't require anything else)
    Thanks
  • Racing Quattro carbon and some climbing wheels?

First thought is to wait until Wheelies have a good set and at a good price.

Second thought is to see if they'll price match, then maybe even chuck a small amount in. At the moment for example Reynolds Aero 46 are listed at £1999 but they are £1499 at PBK, they're just one example of better wheels than the ones you listed.
  • Out of those I'd go for the Reynolds, wide rim & tubeless
The Mavics would be of interest for the brake track but lack of tubeless, and lastly the F6R as they don't offer what the others have, have a welded alloy brake surface and weigh 1900g
I'm sorry you don't believe in miracles

The 2017 Mavic wheels look much better value to me.

The main advantage of the anodized brake surface is braking in the wet, but comes with a weight (and noise) penalty. Basically though they are just overly expensive alloy/carbon hybrids.

For "best bike" wheels, how often will you be riding in the pissing rain? Even then, carbon brake tracks aren't that bad.

If you like the mavic cosmic pro carbons the new ust tubeless versions are not much above your budget. You could wait and see if they get reduced in the xmas sales that will be here soon.
