Anyone else on here riding for Deliveroo? I've recently started and am finding it excellent. Any questions about it fire away....

Well not whilst commuting anyway - that bloddy box would seriously impair my SCR results. What's the FCN adjuster for one of those anyway?

+2 for the box but -3 if there is pizza in it.

I thought they money/workers rights was pretty terrible?

Seems too be alot of variation?
  • Yes the boxes are ridiculous, and could easily be half the size if it weren't for people ordering pizza.....

As for money/workers rights - deliveroo make it very clear you are self employed and not an employee. Pay does depends on zone but i work in nottingham and get paid £4.25 per delivery. On a good night i can get up to four deliveries an hour, and even on not-so-good days i am consistently earning over £10 an hour.

As a student the flexibility is excellent, you can book shifts a week in advance, and cancel them at short notice with no repercussions or alternatively do what i do and just log on when i fancy it (there is nearly always space from people booking and then cancelling shifts). Wouldn't recommend it as a full time job but for part time/extra income it is useful. Not many other jobs you get paid for riding your bike around.

Obviously you dont get sick pay, paid maternity/paternity and what not but you are technically self employed. Deliveroo are very careful about the self employment thing - bored of your shift? cold? wet? tired? you can just sack off the shift and go home with no repercussions - i have had a chain snap while delivering someones food to their house - phoned rider support and they cancelled it, let me keep the food, and still paid me for the delivery. Also they dont do your tax, which is useful because i wont earn anywhere near 10k a year but don't have to chase up to get my tax back.

Few negatives are when restaurants are dicks - long waiting times on the food, being funny about you coming in to the restaurant and stuff.

Do they do any checks on your lights ? The number of Roo Riders i see with none or puny lights is disturbing. Reflectives only work if the car headlights are on you....

Nope, but they will give you free (albeit cheap and not that bright) lights when you start if you don't have lights already. Same goes for helmets. Its up to you to use them or not.

  • Yes but what we all want to know is do you make use of the right of substitution?

If our didn't have kids I might do it on the weekends.

I have a very stressful desk job and getting paid to explore the city (against the clock!) sounds like fun.

Wear and tear costs must be horrendous though, even on fixed/ss.

Never had too, know people that have done. If i couldn't make a shift id sooner just cancel than let someone else use my phone and maybe my bike to earn money....

Yep have to keep on top of chain wear especially. I also invested in a big bulk purchase of inner tubes. Would rather do it on a decent road bike than some the BSO's you see others riding.

Start up costs aren't cheap either, if you take the bag its £40 and then the jacket costs £60. You don't need to pay upfront though and if your own jacket meets their requirements then you are free to use that instead.
