Mystery Frame

Hi all, first time on a new thread for me. I've been stripping an old frame to restore and build up with an RSX groupset but I have no idea what it is, it was blue when I got it with orange underneath with no decals or badges.
It's not the end of the world but it would be nice to put the right name on the downtube (and possibly the right tubing decal!)
There's a link to some photos of it but here's what I know.
Original colour was orange
68mm English BB
Huret dropouts (old Huret b screw stop positions)
120mm dropout spacing
Nice pointy lugs and fancy plates round rear brake bridge, all brazed
No other braze-ons, cable guides or bottle bosses
Band on stop on downtube looks like the batman symbol
Serial number on the BB shell running front to back on non drive side
Serial number is 13882
BB shell also has 57 58 stamped on it but I guess that's just the size guide?
Lugged fork crown
No obvious seams on any tubes

Like I say it's not the end of the world if no one can help but there seems to be some real experts here !
It's a bit of a project and practice frame. I was going to cold set the rear spacing and have a go at silver soldering on some cable guides and downtube and bottle bosses. Also I'd need to add a bit of something to the rear mech hanger to bring the stop round.
Look forward to the replies!

could it be a raleigh. forks look similiar to low end 80's raleigh ones. is there a serial number?0
-
Yeah, serial number is 13882, not consistent with Raleighs. It's too well made to a be a low end Raleigh (I've seen a few of them!) with the extra lugwork on the brake bridge and the proper dropouts. Cheap Raleighs just had stamped dropouts, and some even had a plate instead of a bridge (like the Routier).
I'm still a bit lost, the serial numbers don't match with Holdsworth, Motobecane or Gitaine either.0 -
Yeah thats a well made frame, completely different to a cheap Raleigh!
when i was a kid i had a 531 Viking with that Clover leaf fork crown and Huret drop outs, have to think that the fork is original as it has matching drop outs?
It must be UK in origin as its an english thread BB, maybe look at Bob Jackson or Mercian? but there are dozens of frame makers from the 60s and 70s....... did consider a Charlton but their decent frames had a rivited name plate.0 -
I'll have a look at those and see what I can find out. In the meantime I've been getting a bit blowtorch happy making a few improvements. I know it won't make the purists happy but I fancied a go at brazing (silver solder) and it's come out pretty well.
I've added;
Bottle bosses
Top tube cable guides
Rear stay gear cable stop
Shifter bosses
All pretty essential really, I've also brazed an extra bit of steel onto the rear derailleur hanger to change it from Huret to Campagnolo compatible. And just for the sake of it a race number holder because why not?!
Finally I've drilled and tapped the bottom bracket to take a gear cable guide.
Here's a few more snaps and one of the DIY blasting cabinet.

SW Slacker,
You should try the road section on the retro bike forum. There's some knowledgeable people over there who should be able to assist in identifying the frame.
Hope this helps.0
