Cycle2work scheme - only bikes?

I have a quick question about the cycle2work scheme, can it be used just for accessories? i'm looking to use it for a turbo trainer (£700), is this ok? it seems you can add an amount for 'accessories' but not sure if this counts. Or would i have to buy a cheapo bike and then add the turbo trainer to it?

Any guidance/ previous experience would be greatly appreciated.

You can't use it to get a turbo trainer.
The allowable accessories are safety equipment:

You can get some parts as safety equipment, such as new tyres, but not other safety equipment, such have as brakes or replacement brake pads for some reason in my experience.

  • agree, has to be a bike and accessories to go along with, such as pedals, helmet etc

Personally don't bother with C2W scheme, it's not as gòd as it used to be with some places charging arrangement fees etc. Best bet is 0% or low interest schemes to get what you want.

It depends who the supplier is.
Mine was constrainted to Halfords: I did the minimum value of £100, which I spent on a years worth of tyres, a new helmet & inner tube patches when they were price matched to wiggle etc , but then got given a 20% off almost everything in store voucher that lasts 12 months... (excludes computers and cameras), but since it can be used with their flash sales, should mean bargains for spare parts...
or at least an extra 10% over BC discount - and that 20% off should be able to be used for a trainer..

Some independent bike shops are willing to be flexible on what you buy via the scheme. If so it depends on whether you are willing to stretch the rules or not.
