    Definitely Wahoo over Garmin.

    The bolt is simply brilliant.

  • I recommend the Bolt as well
  • Wahoo Elemnt is much better than the garmin, had mine for over a year now.

    +1 for Wahoo.

Had a Garmin 500 for a few years, then a 520 for 18 months, then upgraded to a ELEMNT Bolt in March this year and it's remarkable how wide the gap is.

Garmin is 1996, Wahoo very much 21st century.

  • Considering the market share Garmin have, you'll find nobody recommending them

The Wahoo does everything you want & need, and simply
I'm sorry you don't believe in miracles
  • Well my Elemnt Bolt just packed it in after only six weeks...

Was awesome when it worked and MUCH preferred it over the Garmin 510 it replaced. Haven't decided whether I will get a replacement or go back to Garmin, which for me at least had been very, very reliable!

    What happened to it?
If it's only 6 weeks old then you have likely just had a duff unit as it's been out almost a year and failures are few and far between.

Get in touch with the place of purchase for a replacement.

I don't understand the hate for Garmin.

My 520 has been perfect. It's not crashed once, the battery life is fine considering what it's running and it does everything it should.

My only annoyance would be the elevation meter.
  • Been a happy Garmin 800 user for 5 years. The battery is starting to struggle with rides over 5h and the USB connection has deteriorated somewhat. Bought an 820 to replace and I'm quite disappointed in it really.

The touchscreen is terrible for a device in 2017. Not responsive with bare fingers and nearly unusable with gloves. The battery life is probably 10h at best compared to their claimed 15h. On the not so negative side, following a GPX route with directions still works (yay) and its management of different bikes and sensors is more convenient than an 800 (where you have to create a bike profile for each bike and its sensors).

When they work as they supposed to Garmin devices are good. However, they have developed a tendency to release products and updates well before they are ready.

I used to think my edge 520 was the dogs b******s, that was until i tried the Wahoo Elemnt Bolt and i released what a bike gps should be like and how far behind the Garmin was.

Have sent it back for a refund. Still undecided on whether to get another BOLT or a Garmin 520/820.
(before the Bolt I had a 510, which was everything I needed and faultless for years)

Guys with Garmin all rides are uploaded to Garmin connect, so do Wahoo have a similar set up?

Yes. Rides are automatically uploaded to the Wahoo app and can also be auto uploaded to 3rd party apps (training peaks etc).
  • Get a Lezyne Super GPS and spend ~£90+ on other bike bits, my one cost £102 with a promo code from Probikekit mid summer.

I'd also never really had an issue with my 500 or 520, never crashed or failed to record data in 30,000+ km.

    Garmin's are good.

Issue with good is that it's the enemy of better.

Wahoos are better. Better battery, easier to use, much better connectivity, no cables needed, more intuitive interface on device and in the app.

    Ah, that doesn't look good.
Never seen that before so think you've just been unlucky.

Having owned my elemnt bolt for 8 months now it is definitely the best bike gps I have ever owned (and I have had/ used every garmin edge to date). The only criticism I have is that the plastic casing isn't as resilient as that of the garmin.

I found the casing of the Elemnt Bolt less "rugged" than the Garmin units I've owned too. Just not as refined, more "plasticy" and just didn't feel like it was of as high a quality.

Loved the Elemnt app based menu setup and zoom in/out feature. I much prefer the ability to drag and drop courses and files onto the Garmin, rather than having to do it in RideWithGPS or Strava and then sync it to the Bolt, but maybe I'm just a little old school.

In the end I went back to Garmin with an 820. Time will tell.

works with any ant+ / bluetooth sensors, but the mounts are slightly different.
