    Retained:

Thomas - got to happen for him now that the praying mantis has a cloud hanging over him
Stannard - good classics campaign please
    Bardet - mercurial
CAV - big year ahead. Either he'll win four stages or he's finished etc etc
Chaves - Gotta love a man who's that smiley - though needs to develop a bit of an edge to him
    De Gendt - loooooong raaaaaange
    Sagan - obviously
McLay - Think JV's Wagon Train Of Weirdos, Hipsters, Mavericks And No-Hopers will suit him

    Released:
Quintana - not doing the business. Busted flush
Stybar - lost in the shuffle
Lil Pete - useless team, no role

    New signings:
    Cummings - Man love

    Stagiares:
Tom Pidcock - absolute monster in the making
Adrien Costa - potential future tour winner

Last year's 'not my men' list remains the same (with the elimination of Farrar, one less to hate)

Aru - ungainly, basking shark faced toss pot doper
Valverde - not taken in by his apparent change in nature in recent times - he's the same to55er he's always been
Bouhanni - all the tantrums of Cav, none of the talent
Impey - drugs cheat ('contaminated pill machine' my ar5e)
Fat chopper. Some racing. Some testing. Some crashing.
Specialising in Git Daaahns and Cafs. Norvern Munkey/Transplanted Laaandoner.

I've not slept these last few nights - I'm like a DS who has promised the team a co-sponsor and knows its not coming.....

Riders who were given the nod at the end of last season have been cruelly discarded on a whim. Places have been given to others with no real affinity....so the final is (and of course it is now eight)

Tony Gallopin Ag2R 'keep the fires burning' (hopefully - or a new role?)
Clement Venturini Ag2R Cross hardened , road aware (tough stage win Tour of Austria)
Alex Geniez Ag2R Hands free this year please - that win at Tre Valli gets a a retain
    David Gaudu FdJ Vunderkidz
    Thibaut Pinot FdJ Vundervall
Lilian Calmejane Direct Energie How did i forget that ride on the 8th July ?
Johan Le Bon Vital Concept - Is going to want to show (more than usual)
Bjorg Lambrecht Lotto Who he? I think we will find out

    so out goes
Carlos Betancur Movistar Endured a bit of banter about the batter but coming back a better battler - but not betting on it

Niklas Eg TREK No EG'O' here just 'O 'watch him go (excuses)
Bob Jungels Quickstep Tour de France this year - he's ready ,we're ready

Very good. Hope the transfer of Gallopin brings results
  • First of the year. Good luck Venturini. French Nat cross today

Finally had a moment to think about who is in my team for 2018.

    Sep Vanmarcke
    Alexander Kristoff
    Esteban Chaves
    Toms Skujinš
    Svein Tuft
    Andriy Grivko
    Ilnur Zakarin
    Michal Kwiatkowski (back in)
Vincenzo Nibali (should really have been in from the start)

And the nearly made it lot, who I'll still be cheering:
Tom Dumoulin (booted down a notch in favour of Nibs)
Adam Hansen (squeezed out by Kwiato)
    Nikki Terpstra
    Rigoberto Uran
    Warren Barguil

Dish Dash is actually Andriy Grivko’s mum.
  • David Gaudu - I'd love to see him tear up the Ardennes
    Julian Alaphilippe - see above
Kwiato - Top 10 GC and another monument, not sure which though
lil' Georgie Bennett - Breakout 2017, excellent value on TV
Jasper Stuyven - I think he'll do proper damage at the classics this year
Superman Lopez - Podium at whatever GC he's doing (Giro?)
Wout Poels - Quiet '17 and assuming Froome gets the ban and Thomas falls off, he's in
Enric Mas - Will win everything in the Basque country

  • I forgot Naesen and Denz. Too much choice! No wonder Frenchie had a 30 man squad :D

With an alternating 60 man line up ;-)

Looks like he’s doing MSR, RVV, PR and a whole pile of others this year. Hopefully starting with Omloop.

    Ok let's pick 9

    Owain Doull
    Geraint Thomas
    Luke Rowe
(Sadly this Cardiff trio brings me up to my 3 Sky limit)

    Scott Davies
    Sam Bewley
    Richie Porte
    Mark Cavendish
    Thomas De Gendt

And whoever was 95th in the UCI rankings at the end of the year: Laurent Pichon apparently
