plus why does no-one tell you about the last ten k?

I was in a group of 25 riders and we were piling along at 44kph for ages. Some Dutch or Belgian bloke was sitting in the group and driving us forward with shouts and encouragement and we were all reacting to it.

I'm 53 years old and my max heart rate for last five years has been 166 bpm. I glanced down and I was at 171.

    And then I attacked!

One guy followed me and pipped me at the line, laughing as he did so but I left the others in my wake.

There was something at the last feed stop I had that was like rocket fuel, I'm trying to find out what it was cos I was ON. FIRE.

Yeah, I love that last 10km. I averaged almost 42 km/h for the last 10km!

    I'd recommend the Paris-Roubaix cyclo-tourism sportive on June 10 www.vc-roubaix-cyclo.fr

Or, as mentioned, go to Valkenburg and follow the signposted Amstel Gold route for free.

The Eddy Merckx Classic is on 24th June http://www.sport.be/eddymerckxclassic/2018/
