Sram Apex disc/caliper compatibility

Hi all, I have some Sram Apex shifters (2x10) that were originally set up with mechanical disc brakes. I bought them second hand without realising they were originally from a CX/disc bike (doh!) but am I right in thinking they can be set up with a traditional road bike rim brakes? Or am I totally wrong...

    they are normal road shifters and can be used with caliper brakes and anything else like road disk mechanical calipers
