One day in Tenerife

Going to Puerto de la Cruz next week and will hire a bike for one day.

What's the best route for an about 100km ride from there if I've only got one ride?

Up to the observatory and back down again? Or across the top to Masca and back? Or somewhere else?

Thanks all in advance.

  • Masca is great but you'll have a lot of dual carriageway riding before you get there. You have to go up Teide if you've only got one ride! Climb via La Orotava and then go to the cable car and then back down again.
  • Thanks - it's a nice climb, not too hard just very long. 47km with almost no flat, up to a moonscape. Picked a decent day for it too, as later in the week it hailed on the top.

If I go again, I'll try to ride in the Anaga - walked in the Las Carboneras/Chinamada area and it is stunningly beautiful, and looks to have some cracking (and steep) climbs on good tarmac.
  • That was my conclusion too...we drove up from San Andres and it looks to be great cycling in the Anaga.
