And I would put the £22 you've saved on your budget towards upgrading to R550s from the R540s - they are a huge improvement, because:
1. The wear plate is metal which means they avoid the creak you get with the 540s when the plastic plate wears
2. The pedal body is much wider, which makes them more stable
3. The pedal body is resin, which makes them much lighter.0 -
I have some B’Twin 900 shoes which are £80, they’re comfortable and adjustable.0

Any shoes that fit you. If they aren't comfortable then no matter what the reviews are - they aren't for you.0

The best ones are the ones that fit properly and most comfortably.0

Try and see if u can stretch it that tiny bit and get shimano rc7, they won't disappoint. It is a budget shoe that's very close to pro level(kinda like ultegra of shoes). Although if this is your first pair you might find it too stiff.
I remember first month riding clipless, the stiff sole really hurt the balls of my feet but I got used to it. Every time I go up a stiff level, my feet kinda have to readjust0 -
No idea how these fit, but they've got over 50% off at Wiggle in their Black Friday deals:

Got to say Ive tried a few mainly Shimano, Specialized and Sidi at various price points. Yesterday I looked at the Giro Treble and Trans E70s. OMG they are so much nicer than the other shoes Ive tried before and cheaper! Not sure what it is but to me they were like wearing slippers (not that I wear slippers but you get the jist).0
