    Morning

First day back in the office after a few long days out and about looking at things. I'm only allowed back today because I've got another meeting which I've got to head off to shortly. Was contemplating cycling there, but it's raining.

Disappointed so far at the lack of revenge for Monday's office pranks. Maybe I just haven't found it yet.

Bike ready so am just having a coffee and some corn flakes whilst watching TDNFWAW before pedaling off.

    She is so lovely.

    Morning folks,
Cold and foggy in my head and outside this morning. Managed to wobble in to work rather slowly, seriously considered stopping and having a row with a Felthamite Neanderthal. Probably just as well I didn't. Had a call from the lad just now having finished his first day working on a farm. Said it was hard work and he only got shat on the once. Running the bar at the scouts fireworks do tonight, it's usually a bit of a laugh. It's about time someone made me a second cup of tea, can't get the staff these days.

If the scouts had had a bar when I was a lad, I would have probably joined up.

Are scouts old enough to drink?

Foggy start, clearing by the time I got to work. Enjoyable pedal though. Fire drill has been pre-announced, so will be an early finish. You need to get the bike out of our building using the lifts, which are shut off during fire drills, and not turned back on until it's all over. Luckily my boss is a bikeist as well, so we'll be p*ssing off about 4.30.

It's more that they drive their parents to drink. We do also sell soft drinks and fruit juices for the little ones. I had one parent complain about the price of 50p for a can of pop, he looked a little uncomfortable when I pointed out it was a charity fundraiser and all of the money made went towards his kids scout group.

Had said parent bought a single can of pop in a shop recently? Even a multipack can is 30 pence or so in a supermarket. Miserable sod. I'd have bounced the can off his head.

I thought making it clear how tight and stupid he was in front of his kids and other parents was enough.
Does anyone else get the impression Seano would always make sure he was the last one on the cubs minibus?
I got turfed out of scouts as a lad because I only bothered to turn up if they were going to do something that was fun.

We'll come up with a mystery illness for you.

Stunning day. Just about survived the flu jab so i'm going out for a wobbly wobble.

  • Fairly sure a bit of spanking went on in the scouts when I was a lad. I was never molested, the benefits of being an ugly child I suppose.
No riding in today as it was pretty foggy this am. In an attempt to actually get out of the office for a bit I have taken to going for a walk at lunchtime around the local area which is lovely and rural and at this time of the year is stunning. I do have to walk past two pubs which is tempting.
Stopping off at the beer shop on the way home for some weekend ales and ciders. Laters.

  • Took a large chunk of the day making some lap joints in new timber for hand railing. Looks like proper joinery work. 8)

Bacon and egg roll for lunch. With chips on the side. Mmmmmmmmmmm.

Remainder of the day was a brief telephone interview with a couple of "Consulting Managers" who appear to know about half what I do. I could hear one taking notes every time a technical question was asked, think he was writing down the answers. ("So, that's how you do that!? Fark me!") Then chopped up a small mountain of leftover timber and sheeting into bits small enough to go in other people's bins. Ours are already chockers. Managed to slip it all into half a dozen bins up the road tonight - result!

Morning, no fog down here, was sunny now gone a bit dull probably a sign of things to come. Office is rather noisy and I apparently have some laptop to confirm if its broken or not, its allegedly on my desk by my desk is bereft of laptops so I'll assume its not broken for now.
Onward to slurping coffee loudly to annoy people.

Am I right in thinking that all the English teams in the CL won this week apart from one, who got royally stuffed.

Ditto. The company was dishing them out today so WTF. Also persuaded a reluctant minion to get a jab by pointing out that the deadliest strain going around this year is Australian flu and one of my group is Australian. Some people are so gullible :)

In other news I've done my good deeds for the day:
    1. Sticking a fiver into the armed forces collection bucket outside the tube this morning
    2. Negotiating the cost of a tax audit in one of our larger territories down from €13m to €2m. They were trying it on for a fair bit of that but I sensed their keen-ness to settle quickly and not get caught up in years of litigation and they bit. Result: Stevo 1 - Robbing garlic scented Eurotwats* 0

    * Don't google that word at work :)

I think some on Cake stop in the EU thread would have negotiated it up to €20.

Eminently successful day, now chillin' with a coffee before heading to Edwyn's to buy some of his home made goat and lentil sausages for bangers 'n' mash supper.

The older version of this, but only did the smaller pieces on it. A 300mm dual bevel slide compound miter saw..

    Bosch_Miter_Saw_GCM12SD_Miter_Saws_(EN).png

Had it for 12 years and it's done a *lot* of work, still fairly good, but a mongrel of a thing to calibrate for precision work. Had a Hitachi one before this which was a bit better, but that got nicked.

The big bits of timber I'm working on are 3 metre long (very) hardwood, in 140*45 mm. Each bit weighs probably as much as Stevo's crudder bike, so I set those up on saw horses, and did them with just a regular circular saw. Very slow and the clean up of the joints is even tougher with a chisel because the timber is so damned hard to work. I'd have used a router to mill the joint faces flat but these are too big for that to be any easier.

Fair play to you WS, that takes a lot of patience. I have a bench saw but it's not a quality one. My Mitre saw is my baby. It's a Makita - it has been priceless so far on the PPP job.
Need to get a new blade for it though, took the tip of a saw tooth out
