Where've the reports gone?
One of the things I love about CX is the way you can turn up at the beginning of the season with no fitness, finish as close to the back of the field as you used to be to the front, and it's still just as much fun. In fact it's better in some ways, because you don't feel the need to stress about your results...Pannier, 120rpm.0 -

You’re still finishing ahead of me TGOTB but you’re dead right about being able to race against whoever is around you. Great course on Sunday, I had a blast and had a good battle with 4 guys for the last three laps, was glad not to be lapped so we had one more lap to carry it on......not often (ever) I’ve said that.0 -

this is me, always near the back in my category but still feel invigorated at the end. results are not my cx motivator0 -
I was doing them last season but this season has been a bit less active on the 'cross front due to a new baby coming along 3 weeks ago.
I've managed 3 races this year, I'm generally about 10 places down on last season but I'm enjoying my training a lot more (woodland trails with my 4 year old son) and still having a laugh in the races.
This week I went to watch with my son instead of racing, I took some pretty bad photos and enjoyed cheering on all the guys I normally race with. It was muddy with quite a few mashed rear mechs so I was happy to just have to clean our boots and have no repairs this week for a change.
Need to sign up for the race on the 19th in Colchester, I didn't make it to the last race there and man do I miss cycling up and down that embankment ;/0 -
I raced twice over the weekend. I say I raced, but as I live my sporting life vicariously through my 11 year old, really he raced. Firstly was at Nottingham in the NDCXL sponsored by Forme (seriously nice looking bike is the new Calver), and then in the Islabikes promoted Quarrycross at Cleehill just outside of Ludlow.
The first was a muddy day, which only got worse I believe for the senior categories. He did ok again managing a place just outside of the top 10. He rode as hard as always and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. He has progressed from mid-table mediocrity last season to top 15 this. He did say it was hard work, especially through the woods which were muddy and a bit tricky. I always shout/encourage him to pedal in a higher gear or to use them more as I don't think he uses them to his best advantage. However he's the one riding it and he's much better than me, so what do I know?
Yesterday was a new event. Beautiful views high up a Shropshire mountain in what I believe is an old quarry. Boy it was cold. How the little ones managed the conditions is a testament to them. His course stayed on the upper level and was flat, aside from a bump that only the strongest consistently got over. The course seemed to drain fairly well, so didn't appear to be as soft as the day before. He managed a respectable top 10 and was pleased. He thought that overall Nottingham was a harder course, just the cold weather conditions making it harder yesterday.
Hopefully he will realise that he can't just rely on his fitness and turning up and racing to be enough. If he wants to progress up the leaderboards then he needs to work harder in the week and try using a bigger gear for longer. Of course a lighter, newer bike would also help somewhat...
The advantage of me living my life through him is that I am exhausted today, aches and pains all over. He, on the other hand, is as fresh as a daisy. Something's not right somewhere....0 -
Today was a muddy day, very very muddy. Crossed the finish line on the bell, leaders nowhere to be seen, so off for another lap.
200 yards later, punctured.
