Do you stick with genuine parts/components or do you use other brands.

Is it saving you money using other brands ? Do they wear as good ?

Opps spotted spelling mistake in the title

I tend to stick to same brands. Don't like switching to cheaper parts, as, personally, I find they don't last as well or shift as well as original parts. Ditto for different brands. This is totally personal, and others will say there is no difference or cheaper parts are as good, all just person opinions. Plus, why have a nice bike with nice groupset then stick a cheap aftermarket replacement part on it?

Most people don't have a nice groupset though, they have a Shimano one.

Something like TA is just as good as Shimano and a lot cheaper.

Or just, as mfin said, buy a nice one.

Once the rings on my Campagnolo chain sets wear out they get replaced by TA. They're just as good as originals and I reckon they look better too.

New ones are 4 bolts now so they are a stupid price for one bolt less.

I've just bunged a Stronglight 50 on my Ribble in place of a Centaur ring. £35 or so from High on Bikes compared to at least double for discounted new. Same Zicral alloy as the original Campag. Though of course about two days after getting the Stronglight I found an unused Veloce (same as Centaur as it happens) chainring BIN for £30..... What with those two and the low mileage spare Centaur chainset I've got, I reckon my stock of chainrings will keep me going pretty much to retirement.

I've also put a Miche cassette on out of curiosity. It looked a bit crappier than the Veloce ones somehow but seems fine functionally.

Fitted one of these to a friends wheelset after doing some retruing, Primato or something along those lines? seemed to shift OK just a weird matt finish to it.

Charing wise I can pay £80 for a single 50T outer ring on mine or TA outer for £42 which should last just as long, and be lighter.

Depends. I had some TA rings on my (old model) Campagnolo chain set and I thought they shifted as well as the originals, but when I tried the newer XPSS Campagnolo rings they shifted much better.
