I have a lovely Galibier Mistral jacket for the weekend but fancy something a bit more visibly for the one hour commute. Intensity isn’t overly high on the commutes with only a few false flat drags to compete with.

Any recommendations for something visible/reflective with good waterproofing and some breathability?

  • Though I do think that it's not a good jacket in light, but a great one in dark. Breathable? Doubtful. Water resistant, enough.

  • The best option, IMO, is to find an older Altura Night Vision.

Endura Equipe Exo... can be had very reasonable... but does have to be a wet commute at both ends... morning and evening.

Yes, they keep the rain off , but you will sweat so much underneath you may as well have not bothered.

If you can find one. Retail around 60-70 quid. I have one; it's the best combination of waterproof/breathable I have owned.

Seems the condom might be discontinued as I can't find it on usual sites - this appears to be the new model, also made of Poray 5000 fabric:

  • Look on planetx site. They sell off agu waterproofs. They also do their own hi viz ones cheaply

another vote for Altura night vision. Excellent waterproofing and breathability.
  • No need for a waterproof jacket,
Just keep a towel at work.

They're certainly not breathable, but with the OP's brief, they should be fine.

Ger, as a bit of an alternative, have you considered the new version of the Galibier Tourmalet?
If its really cold you might need a good thick layer underneath, but I had the original black version of this and it was really great when I was commuting - the fit is superb and I kept dry without ever getting to sweaty.

Im ordering the new red version in a week or so to keep in my back pocket all year round as it fold up surprisingly small for such a fully formed rain jacket - just waiting on their endurance bib shorts to come back into stock so I can order all together.

Just another idea to throw into the mix.

they have plenty of zipped vents that help keep you cool and sweat off, I find anyway

I have one in my wardrobe, only worn a few times , was a bit annoyed the material ripped on the zip pocket but it’s fine for torrential downpours. I just wouldn’t wear it for anything else. It’s not a bad bit of kit, just boil in the bag

Just keep a towel at work.

I don’t want to be cold and wet for an hour twice daily.

If you ride a bit harder you won't get cold.
Grease yourself up with goose fat like the channel swimmers do if you're that worried.

Appreciate you have mentioned £60, BUT, bear with me here, IF you can stretch to £99.99, and are slim, you can grab the Castelli Pave, in a (I love it) high viz and pave pattern, in Small for £100.

Alternatively, if you are more of a medium in Castelli, I have a bnwt one to sell, which the small one replaced as i have lost weight, which I would sell for the same price but + P&P.

It's event fabric, it's meant to be rather good.

  • dhb ASV Race eVent jacket is £65 at wiggle just now. No better material for a waterproof cycling shell IMO.

eVent is excellent material. I have had a Rab jacket for 15 years and it washes up like new. It might even outperform goose fat.

How many Altura Nightvisions are there? Some with a fleeced collar, some without, some with a circle rear light and some with a rectangle light.
