BC membership discount at halfords (rant alert)

Tried to buy a few bits (all cycling equipment) this morning from Halfords but they refused my BC discount as they said the items were reduced through price match (i did not request a price match i should ask, i literally just picked up bits in store and took them to the counter) and therefore BC discount cannot be applied.
Looking at the t&cs it states that the discount
• May not be used in conjunction with any other voucher.
• Cannot be used in conjunction with other instore promotions.
• is not applicable on sale items
But everything i had taken to the counter was priced at their own prices (beit standard or pricematch) so why the hell did they refuse my extra 10% off??

Must vary from Store to Store, I have bought sale items and had my 10% discount applied no problem, (including a bike that had already been reduced by £200!)0

Does their price match thing count as an instore promotion?0

Interesting to hear this story.
I was considering taking out a BC membership with the intention of using it to buy a smart turbo from Halfords but now I come to think of it, the turbo in question was marked as a price matched item on the website.
Will be interested to hear how you get on at an alternative store.0 -
Must vary store to store, I bought a set of wipers from there an used it when they were on buy on get one free, no questions asked.0

It definitely depends on branch, I bought a Cycleops Hammer in February from them and expected either BC discount or price match with Wiggle but ended up getting both on top of a 9% cashback reward through my employer.0

The T&C's used to to state that the 10% off was still valid on Sale items.
Has this been changed then ?0 -
I ordered a Go Pro Session camera via click and collect and when I went to pick it up I was refused my 10% discount as it 'not cycling stuff mate', so I just gave them all the other stuff I'd picked up including some cycling stuff and walked out.'Hello to Jason Isaacs'0

FWIW, my experience has always been that of getting the 10% off everything that I have had from them over a few years since joining BC. That has included bike stuff and car stuff such as a roof box and, most recently, screen wash and an electric cool box! The roof box was a flash sale item with a very good reduction that got even better courtesy of BC.Cannondale Synapse Carbon Ultegra

Same as @ayjaycee - every time I've presented my BC card at the till, other than the frantic scrabble to locate the correct barcode to scan for the discount - it's been accepted. On click&collect (where the store & web prices were different), sale items, end of line items (this is how I ended up with 20 ass-savers for £9) - accepted no discussion.0

I have never had an issue either, though did get turned down when I had head office agree to a price match on an item, but wasn't surprised by that.
Just today I picked up 4 pairs of Endura socks, for somethin like £3.50 a pair instead of the £9 they used to be.
Like a poster above, I also used it to buy a roofbox, two years ago for me though.
Clearly depends on the store - irritating if it's your local that bucks the trend though,Felt F70 05 (Turbo)

Yes, now states specifically that sale items are not included. Not that this was relevant today though.0 -
I've chanced my arm with BC discount and price match and had both most of the time but not always. Best deal I had was an Edge 820 for £230 due to PM & BC. Getting both can depend on the store and the staff members in the store, some will in my local Cycle Republic and some won't.I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0

The truth is that most of the staff dont have a clue, a few have a vague idea but arent sure of the detail and a very few know properly what to do. We arent totally sure either. So its pot luck what you get but most of the time you get the discount, even if you have to persuade them and/or get them to check with someone more senior.
I have only twice been refused, both times at the same store so I try to avoid that store as there are two equally convenient in my town. I have been back there successfully on occasion since though. I did manage to force the guy to back down on one of those refusals eventually, but he wasnt that happy.0 -
Not had any issues on any items except the once when one assistant pointed out that my card was out of date, but i then pointed out the new one must be in the post and she accepted it. 4 months on and the card is still out of date and in occasional use.
Go to a different store.0 -
I’ve just bought a Bike for the lad that was £270 down from £340.I also had a Family and Friends 25% off voucher and applied my 10% BC so paid £177!
Must be your store!0 -
Never had a problem at our local Halfords.0

I bought a child carrier bike trailer yesterday and they had 10% off cycling accessories offer on but still gave me another 10% off for BC membership. The guy who served me had to ask someone else though before sanctioning it. He then had to ask how to calculate what 10% of £75 was. :shock:Vaaru Titanium Sram Red eTap

Just an update, it seems to depend on the staff in store. I went in to another halfords on Saturday and picked up the same bits. Took to counter and produced my BC card but it was refused as the items were 'already price matched'. So exactly the same as the previous store.
Anyway, didn't go through with the purchase but returned on Sunday. Different member of staff on the check out and had absolutely no problem. Discount applied immediately.
So it is definitely dependent on the member of staff.0
