Cycling around Hastings

We are thinking of moving to Hastings (St. Helens). We've been down there viewing houses, schools etc..
But all the roads look so narrow, busy and full of potholes. That makes me think it will not be a good place for cycling.
I know it is close to big national parks, but i am wondering how good the cycling is around there.
Both for long rides 3-4h but also for the short training 1-1.5h rides mid-week?
Also any other local information will be appreciated.
I will commute to london about 2-3 per week.

For longer rides head out to Rye via nature reserve, quite flat roads around Rye, but wind is the challenge.
Again annual charity ride.

All areas pretty susceptible to the wind. Beachy Head area can be downright dangerous but a nice tailwind can really help you up the climb from Birling Gap to Beachy Head.
Rovers site might help a bit: https://www.eastbournerovers.club/sunday-routes/
The 'cycle path' from St Leonards to the Ravenside roundabout is basically rough shingle. I wouldn't recommend it, nor would I really recommend Bexhill Road (A259) but it's the only option. Tuck under the railway just before the roundabout and head up Galley Hill then watch out for the dosey Bexhill drivers along the seafront
I hate Battery Hill - first climb I ever had to get off for - I had a stinking cold and a chest infection. If I'm ever back that way on a bike I'm going to smash the [email protected]
