Hi all, new to the site & also some mtb riding so thought I’d register to ask the experts.

Thinking of picking up my first bike, originally ordered GT Aggressor but then changed my mind with a company to spend a little more and go for a Scott Aspect 770 2018. After a week of waiting I was contacted by said company to advise the bike wont be arriving from Belgium until Jan 2018 so I have since had a refund.

That said I’m still looking for my first decent bike and now feel set on the Specialized Pitch Sport 650B.

Originally looked to spend around £300 but soon started to see differences with bikes going up to around £470-500 mark. That’s sort of my budget.

If you’ve read this far, thank you. If you could take the time to give me your opinion on the above bike and perhaps any other advice or recommendations?

    Much better bike, and cheaper:

Better forks, hydraulic brakes instead of mechanical, 9 speed instead of 8, generally just better bits all round.

    Or spend a little more, it's a 29er but I love 29ers:

Everything a notch up, including a decent air fork.

'Name brand' bikes at the lower price end are normally terrible value.

With CD on this, Specialized are pretty poor value unless massively discounted until you get to over about £1K.

The Pitch isnt bad for a 'big brand' bike, but much much better can be found for the money, Halfords (Carrera, Voodoo and 13 as well as Boardman at the higher price points) and Decathlon always have decent value and some of the Calibre's from go outdoors as well.
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.

My mate has an older model pitch sport I think it's a 2015 model and has tektro hydraulic brakes, so it looks like it's been downgraded if the new model has cable operated disks.

Not a bad bike, rides nice but the newer one isn't really good for the money. It's a decent bike but it's too expensive for what it is.

As above the voodoo are better equipped. You really are paying for the brand name with a specialzed at that price.

That 29er looks sweet. I think I'll go for that one. Thanks for the recommendation Cooldad.

Join British Cycling and get a further 10% off at Halfords.
  • Hi there I’m a newbie and I have the same budget. I was also looking at this specialized bike but I’m veering more towards the Giant Talon 2 2018 but I wanted to ask if anyone can recommend anything that’s just as good or close to it for a cheaper price. Or if not hard tail a full suspension bike around that £500 mark.

You're not getting a FS for that, but follow my link above for a better HT.
