I have a Deuter rucsack which I use for commuting. It has a compartment for a hydration pack, and javing never used one am curious to hear others' opinions. Am going on a long walk in a couple of weeks, will be using the Deuter, not having to take it off to get a drink might be handy...

It's just a hill. Get over it.

  • I use one for mountain biking (bottles on frames get covered in mud when wet). They're fine so long as you empty and wash them out after use. Otherwise they get a bit fetid and stale....

Just empty the bladder and stick in in the freezer after use. Stops anything nasty growing in it. Assuming you just use water.

Juice/milk/beer probably best to wash it.

You wash it with milk? Seriously?

Use them all the time for hill walking.

I think it's probably best to only ever fill them with plain water as if you start putting anything else in it becomes much harder to keep them clean and prevent them getting gunked up.
