Touring pedals for big feet...

Hi all, I hope the title will make sense shortly and please excuse my newbie question. I have had a Boardman hybrid now for about 4 months having initially had a Raleigh Nova MTB to aid in my weight loss/exercise which did it's job and 6st lighter I got my Boardman, which I am loving. When I got the bike I had some Nukeproof flat pedals fitted as my size 14 feet wouldn't fit into the pedals that came on the bike as they had toe clips on, up until recently this has worked for me but I now find myself wanting to put clipless pedals on the bike. I won an auction on eBay and got a pair of lightly used Shimano RP5 shoes and I am wanting to still use my bike for my short (1 mile) commute to work in ToeTectors and then when I go out at a weekend so I was looking at touring pedals.
I was looking at 3 options...

My long winded question is, with having large feet will something like the Boardman or Shimano A530 be ok or would I be better off getting the T420

Hope this all makes sense to someone
Thanks, Mark

FWIW, I’ve not got particularly large feet (Size 43 / 44), but I do use the A530s on my hybrid - they work very well on both sides and unless you are wearing clown shoes, I can't see them being a problem. That said, I’ve never used the flat side with anything but trainers that have a bit of ‘tread’ on the soles but I suspect that any shoes / boots without said ‘tread’ might give a problem, particularly in the wet.

  • I'd be using karrimor boots or trainers in the flat side so tread isn't an issue. Many thanks for the help

I've had these on my touring bike for 5000 miles of riding in Norway. Cheaper than your listed options and dual sided so no faffing around spinning the pedals round. They are excellent.

    Faster than a tent.......
  • Thanks both for the help, I am out of action for a few weeks as I have a small operation tomorrow so plenty of time to shop before I get back to it
  • In the end I opted for the Shimano PD-T421, as it's for my Hybrid and I am not looking to save weight I thought them the best option as a first clipless pedal
