Was looking at a KTM frame to see it is Di2 only, i. e. has no provision for gear cable.

Surprised me, is that the way things are heading??

On a mountain bike? I hope not, those things are pernickety.

For XC race bikes, yes Di2 is the way it's heading, for most other categories then no.
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.

The reviews of di2 are all positive and say it is better than mechanical shifter even if covered in mud.

I can't help but feel it is a solution to what is not really a problem. I'm also not comfortable with the battery, it's OK if you are top racer with your own mechanic who looks after your bike.
