Are there any people out there who park and pedal?
Would like to understand if there are any particular concerns or merits to this system.
I note that some people do some long commutes, but a lot of people are time poor and park and pedal is theoretically fastest for a suburb to city commute.

Boston just provides free parking at some trail heads.
Do you think this would this work here?

  • I regularly use the Park & Ride car parks around Edinburgh, parking the car & riding the bike.

Nobody checks to see if you got on the bus/train provided - and anyway I checked with the council and they were more than happy to facilitate park & (bike) ride, park & (bus) ride, park & (train) ride or even park & ride (share). The purpose of most P&R schemes is to reduce the number of vehicles in town/city centres... They don't care what alternative method you use to complete your journey.

Yes I do, and have done for ages at various places I've worked at.

You need to find somewhere to park close to the main/fast road. Driving around on slow roads to get to a parking space isn't good. I tend to park 10-15 miles away on a 20/25 mile overall commute (depends on the route) which misses out the hilly/crappy roads.

I don't do it to save time, I do it so I can actually ride to work and not be totally demotivated by a 90 min ride home on awful roads with loads of traffic every day.

I used to used to park at the park and ride once in a while (~2 miles away) but now you have to pay to park there and pay again for the bus. Someone else used to do this and has given up and just drives to work (it was a comment in the local parking strategy consultation that was published recently).
